Marbella accommodation guide

The old town (casco antiguo) is the most atmospheric place to stay: it is a small, pedestrianised maze of whitewashed lanes, orange-tree squares, and independent restaurants that feels quite different from the international resort image Marbella has elsewhere. The Golden Mile is the stretch of coast running west from central Marbella toward Benahavís: this is where the major luxury beach resort hotels are, with private beach clubs, everything-included service, and a very international (and very well-heeled) clientele. Puerto Banús, 7km west of the centre, is the marina district: it suits those who want lively nightlife, designer shopping, and superyacht-watching, and has a range of hotels from mid-range to extreme luxury. The east side of Marbella (around Las Chapas and Elviria, beyond the town centre) is quieter, more residential, and popular with long-stay visitors: beaches are good here and the pace is slower. If driving, avoid hotels directly alongside the N-340 coast road: it is noisy at night and the beach access is awkward.

Choose the base first

In Marbella, the right hotel depends on the rhythm of the trip: old-town walking, beach time, family logistics, rural driving, or a short stop between cities. Start with the area that cuts down daily transfers, then compare hotel style.

Check the practical trade-offs

Before booking, check whether you need parking, lifts, air conditioning, late check-in, beach access, or easy public transport. The weather guide and car-hire guide help with seasonal and driving decisions.

Compare nearby options

If Marbella feels too busy, expensive, or spread out, compare another base in or near Málaga. These guides are useful next steps:

Accommodation notes for Marbella

For a short stay, decide first whether you want Marbella old town, a resort-style beach hotel, or Puerto Banús nightlife. They are close on a map but feel like different trips once taxis, parking and evening plans are involved.

Summer prices can be high and minimum stays are common in apartments. If value matters, compare shoulder-season dates and consider Málaga city, Estepona or inland Ronda before committing to Marbella.
