Choose a base before choosing a hotel

The best stay in Andalucía depends on how much you want to move. First-time visitors usually do best with two or three bases, such as Sevilla, Granada, and Málaga or Cádiz. Beach trips need a different rhythm: the Costa de la Luz suits slower Atlantic stays, while the Costa del Sol gives easier transport, more resorts, and more choice outside summer.

In old cities, check parking and hills before booking. In rural areas, confirm restaurant opening days and whether a car is essential. In July and August, prioritise shade, air conditioning, and a pool over a marginally prettier street.
